Based on my experience travelling along Jalan Loke Yew heading into Jalan Tun Razak at around 8.00 am, our decision to use the smart tunnel was a very smart decision indeed. We left home around 7.15 am and parked my car in the parking lot in front of my office, i think around 8.25 am.
What not so smart about the smart tunnel is that it's CONGESTED!!! I estimated that only 30% of our journey inside the smart tunnel was smooth.
Such an engineering feat was not supposed to get congested that soon!! It was only opened in April 2007, yet to celebrate it's 2 years old birthday!!
My intention is not to nag about morning traffic, but to think about the best solution for traffic problems in KL. Nearly everyday I have this disccussion with someone. This reminded me of a subject I took during my final year, called "Engineers in Society". One of the final exam question was something like this: Problems getting into the city due to heavy traffic. Would you rather add lanes to the highway or built a mass speed train system. Adding lanes to the highway WAS not the preferred solution, at least in this class. So this bring me to my...
Solution No. One: Improve our LRT system (and bus system at that, or even better, all public transport) , so there will be less dependancy on personal transportation. Tp haruslah ada system yg bley dipercayai dulu, baru lah orang nak pakai kan??
Solution Two: Promote (or make a law) on car-pool in the hope of decreasing the number of cars entering the city.
Solution Three: Move half the city altogether, to another location (not viable, i know, but then this is me!!)
Any more ideas out there??
p/s: nak balik & menghadapi very bad traffic in KL city center on Friday evenings. Mana saje la sme org nak pegi nie...
