Offshore Ep 2 - Check into Floating Hotel

My destination - Bokor Field. The facilities here are unmanned facilities, thus no living quarters (xde tmpt mau tdo la...) so, if you have so much to do at the platform and have to sleep overnight (or many, many nights), what do you do??

You called into location, a floating, temporary hotel facility!!! Yeay!! Problem solved :) Big smile on everyone's faces!! Except that, without complete anchoring (which is the case with this thing now, as it is not exactly on the desired location and anchoring business can be quite tedious), this thing tend to 'go with the flow' a.k.a rolling with the waves. Can be quite dizzying even on a good weather day.

To check into this hotel, you have to do this! Boat transfer! The smaller boat take you from the jetty and transport you to the floating hotel. This is the same when you want to go to the platforms from the floating hotel. Actually, if you want to go to the floating hotel or you want to go to any other places from the floating hotel, you have to do this. Simple really, when you are comfy with the distance and height of both ends of the boat transfer, grab the rope tight with both hands and jump!! Yeay!! The key is CONFIDENCE. If you feel you can do it, DO IT. If you dont, dont. If it takes 30 mins for you to do this, then take your time. If you think that you will never have the confidence to do this, then maybe offshore is not your thing.

After checking in, after doing some work and after 5 boat transfers, I hang out on the top deck of our hotel. And this is the beautiful sunset i saw offshore, near Bokor. The captain told us that red sunset means good weather, red sunrise means bad weather. Well, the weather was good for the next 2 days...

Offshore Ep 1 - Pre-Offshore

This is Miri. A day before I was scheduled to go offshore. Hujan aje all day.

Jauh nun disana adalah offshore, tempat yang dituju. Hmm...at this time, seems like this is not a good / nice place to go to...

-- Happy Bday Ibu --

Ibu's bday is 10 January. Selalu terlupe because it's the start of a new year (alasan~). This year i planned to make her a cross-stich of something (coz she's been asking me to make one for her since FOREVER!!) but i didnt have the time. So I decided to surprise her with cute & adorable cuppies, specially made for her!! It's not an original idea tho, i get the idea when an office mate of mine get a surprise!! delivery of cupcakes from his wife.
You can google up cupcakes, malaysia and get lotsa results. Most are online transaction and offers delivery so u dont have to move your ass at all, just ur fingers.

I picked hey! cupcakes for this mission of mine. I fell in love with Azura's (the owner) Bold Sugarpaste letters and cupcakes with filling. So i ordered.

~ My design ~

Hey! Cupcakes website is very informative; the price & menu, ordering instructions are all there. Hey! Cupcakes will want minimal specs of your order (colour scheme, size, filling or any special instructions) but not neccessarily a softcopy of your design. But me being me, of course i send Hey! Cupcakes a copy of my design. Very basic design though, i left most of the details for Hey! Cupcakes. I don't think i'm very creative (or very good at baking) that's i've outsourced this mission.

~ The end results. Cute eh?? ~

Hey! Cupcakes did everything you can see in the picture. Boxed it up and put up the ribbons. There's a package for this type of finishing, or you can opt to pick up your goods in a simple, normal box. I did it this way because it is the birthday present for ibu. Cute sangat kan? The theme i was going for is 'pastel & sweet, girlish love'. That's why the cupcakes look like it is meant for a five year old!

~ Yummy!! ~

The outcome of the birthday surprise for ibu? Yeay! Sumer orang pon happy lah!! The cupcakes are cuteness, and sumer orang pon sayang nak makan. But then, it is meant for eating, do we have any other choice? NOOOO!!! So makan ajelah. Nyum, nyum, nyum. After that, everybody is happier than before because of high level of sugar!!! Jumping, jumping.

But anyway, Happy Bessday to Ibu. No birthday presents, no words, no nothing can ever express our love and our many, many thanks to not only a mother but also a friend (and a shopping partner and one too many times, an enemy). And also no amount of arguments, misunderstandings and many other naughty things that we did (or will do) will make us love you any less. And we know, regardless of how much we think and believe we love you, ibu always love us much more. Walaupon aku dah kawen, aku masih anak ibu. Ehe~

And we will always enjoy our time together, and we will always be...

Genocide

Genocide. Bunyi cam bess je this word. The Compact Oxford English Dictionary (that is always readily available at my workstation), defines genocide (noun) as;

the deliberate killing of a very large number of people
from a particular ethnic group or nation

I was surfing through wikipedia when I bumped into this word. This word was linked from the article on Holocaust. Camne plak tetibe i am interested to search through wikipedia plak neh? Actually, i was educating myself on the current situation in Gaza. I wanted to know how it all started (from waaaaaayyyyy back from what i've read), who are involved and why (this is where I bumped into Holocaust).

Barulah skrang aku tau that there is thing called the British Mandate of Palestine and then the United Nations Partition Plan which is to divide Palestine into a Jewish & Arab State.

And you can say that the rest is history. Or the rest is horrifically bad history.

Damn! We are rich!

In this receipt, that is. Why would anyone in a correct state of mind would like to pay for a meal that cost RM 36.25 with RM 10 000 CASH!

Who carry that amount of cash anyway?

Obviously, this is a silly mistake. But i seriously wont mind it if they give me the change of RM 9964.05. But then, from this receipt, this transaction can be in any currency! Hoho :)

Going Offshore Miri? - Not Possible

For much more seeable picture, click here.

I'm leading an installation works offshore Miri (at Bokor Field) and planned to mobilize this Saturday (17 Jan 2009). It seems that my plan is going bust due to things I cant control. There are things in life that are beyond our control & sometimes imagination even, but these things used to be able to be predicted. But not anymore.

The weather is so bad offshore Miri that all offshore works at Bokor Field are currently on hold. Wave height is predicted between 4.5m - 5.5m, classified as dangerous for oil platform activities. Even in the news, we can see that it has been raining heavily & floods all over Sarawak and Sabah.

Hmmm...unpredicted weather. I'm rephrasing that, unpredicted bad weather. Global warming perhaps?

Us girls watched Mamma Mia! the musical!!!

Yeay! We get to watch it. Thanks to the additional four shows on 3 & 4 January 2009, we get the tickets to Mamma Mia! The Musical. Yeay!!! Our show was on 3 Jan 09, 3.00 pm.

Mamma Mia! indeed!!

Before the curtain is lifted - This is as close as we can get to taking pictures of show. Strictly no picture during the show. Of course we know, we were warned by the patrol person!! Haha~ what do they expect, we love to take pics!! (of things & of course ourselves)

The show is over people...

Digging the Dancing Queen! - Nana, Nur & Mia doing our best impression as Donna

Abess sudah - so balik lah!!
Tp before balik haruslah makan!!! Yummy :)
We really enjoyed this show. Enjoy singing along to Money, Money, Money and Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia! of course. :) it was seriously like watching ABBA concert, in a live music video.
p/s: our PM also watched it on the same day we did! hmmm~

Bedtime Stories

Naddie pointers for Bedtime Stories:
  1. A classic Adam Sandler movie (funny, silly & dirty jokes - you'll laugh like crazy, he'll get a pretty girl at the end, things will work out for him tho not in the way he expected)
  2. The kids are really cute (i love their hair color - of all things).
  3. There are some parts in the movie when it seems that the characters were not so convincing, especially the part(s) when they were trying to save the school from being demolished. It's like "Ooohh our kids will have no place to study, but it's okay Adam Sandler is in this movie!! yeay~"
  4. The movie is flat except for the times when the children & their Uncle Skeeter were making up cRazY bedtime stories together & livin' their bedtime stories.
  5. Lesson: you can make up and imagine great achievements for yourself, but nothing will happen unless you start to take actions. Everything begins with you! Yeay!!
Graphic evidence that my husband and i watched the movie :)

Yes Man

Huh! I just realized that I have not give any comments on the movies that i've watched in this blog. I did this in my old blog, and this is one of the things that i loved writing (or commenting) about.

I always commented on movies in point form, so here goes;
  1. I group Yes Man as a 'tak payah pikir' (no thinking required) movie.
  2. It's funny, i think mainly because Jim Carrey is the leading star of the movie. Definitely not his best funny movie.
  3. The message is good tho - give yourself opportunity by saying yes rather than saying no & avoiding everything. The outcome might not always be good, but the experience is.
  4. I like Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (unrelated, i know)

I would not suggest you to watch it at the cinema, it's best enjoyed at home while you are getting comfy on your couch.

p/s - i dont rate anything. ratings are very difficult. i dont rate, i comment (and usually i have lots of them), so you can make your own conclusions.
